HealthCare Interactive Receives Top National Award for Alzheimer’s Certification Program

Award-Winning CARES® Dementia Certification Program Helps Families and Professional Caregivers Support Loved Ones with Dementia

MINNEAPOLIS, January 11, 2021— Healthcare Interactive received the National Platinum eHealthCare Leadership Award (the highest award possible) for its innovative online CARES® Dementia Certification program that supports people living with dementia and their caregivers. This award from eHealthcare Strategies and Trends, the leading national awards program in the industry, recognizes the very best websites and digital communications of healthcare organizations nationally.

The CARES Dementia Certification program is interactive, educates and tests knowledge and understanding in 10 different areas of person-centered dementia care, and recognizes families and professionals for passing one of 10 certification exams. Topics include dementia basics, safety, challenging behavior, daily living activities, dementia care at home, and other topics.

“We are thrilled that our interactive, online CARES Dementia Certification program has been recognized and acclaimed with the highest possible national award,” said John Hobday, CEO and founder of HealthCare Interactive. “We built this training and certification solution so that everyone who has a role in providing care to someone with memory issues has easy access to quality education. This award validates our efforts to get all family members and professional caregivers certified—nursing staff, social workers, nursing assistants, food service, housekeeping, receptionists, hairdressers, maintenance, activity professionals, and even volunteers.”

Each certification also incorporates HealthCare Interactive’s trademarked 5-step framework to care, the CARES® Approach. CARES stands for C-Connect with the Person, A-Assess Behavior, R-Respond Appropriately, E-Evaluate What Works, and S-Share with Others. This effective approach is easy to learn, easy to remember, and works in any difficult or frustrating care situation. Real-life video examples show both “before” and “CARES” comparative vignettes so the impact of CARES can actually be seen.

“Approximately 50 million people are living with dementia around the world,” notes Hobday. “And every year, there are nearly 10 million new cases. People with Alzheimer’s and dementia lose the ability to say things like, ‘I’m scared,’ or ‘That is hurting me,’ or ‘I don’t know who you are.’ Instead, what often happens is the person will yell, scream, hit, or even bite the very caregiver trying to help them. This issue can be very frustrating for families and professional caregivers alike. That’s where the CARES Approach comes in. CARES teaches caregivers a different way to provide care to those with dementia, improving their relations and results.”
