HealthCare Interactive® Launches CARES® Dementia Certification Program for Individuals

Training Helps Individual Caregivers Provide Evidence-Based Quality Care

MINNEAPOLIS, November 15, 2019 — Healthcare Interactive, an edtech company dedicated to providing the highest quality caregiver training for Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other brain disorders, announced today the CARES® Dementia Certification program for individuals. This comprehensive online program allows caregivers to both elevate their dementia care skills and validate their dementia knowledge with a certification process.

CARES Dementia Certification recognizes and tests a user’s dementia understanding and dementia care knowledge from the evidence-based Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and published CARES research studies of select CARES online dementia care training programs. CARES Dementia Certification is optional and is included at no additional cost with the purchase of qualifying CARES online training programs. Successful completion of the exam recognizes users for being educated about dementia and for being trained in person-centered dementia care practices using the CARES Approach.

Hospitals, medical centers, intermediate care facilities (ICFs), assisted living facilities (ALFs), skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), and other healthcare organizations are encouraged to advertise their use of CARES Dementia Certification to help promote their operations.

“Everyone has a role in providing person-centered dementia care,” said John Hobday, CEO of HealthCare Interactive and creator of the CARES online training programs. “We encourage all staff members at an organization get trained and certified—from CNAs, HHAs, food service, housekeeping, receptionists, hairdressers, maintenance, to nursing staff, social workers, activity professionals, volunteers, and even administrators. Plus any individuals caring for family members or loved ones with dementia can gain valuable skills and insights from the training.”

Individuals complete a qualifying CARES online training program, then take the certification exam from the program online. Those passing the exam with a score of 80% or higher earn their certification and can print a hard copy certificate. Many professional caregivers have received continuing education (CE) credit for completing CARES training.

“The CARES Dementia Certification program is the only online dementia care training recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services,” added Hobday. “We are very proud of the over 1.5 million training modules that have been completed to date and the confidence this program brings to caregivers who engage CARES practices.”

HealthCare Interactive’s mission is to take on Alzheimer’s disease. There are currently 5.7 million people living with Alzheimer’s, and by 2050, that number is projected to grow to nearly 14 million. For more than two decades, the company has been addressing this national crisis by developing the most innovative set of training products for family members and professional caregivers available in the marketplace—CARES. The CARES online video-based programs are easy to use, well researched and published in the academic literature, and can be engaged on any computer or mobile device at home, at work, or on the road.
