BETHESDA, MD—September 14, 2007. HealthCare Interactive, Inc. (HCI) has been selected by the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD to participate in the 2007-2008 SBIR Commercialization Assistance Program. This ten-month program assists a select number of Phase II small-business grant recipients in developing a commercialization plan to take technologies developed as part of the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant program to the next level. The program is comprised of training workshops, individual mentoring and consulting sessions, and public events in which companies present their technologies to the investment community, potential strategic partners and licensees.
The Commercialization Assistance Program is facilitated by the non-profit Larta Institute in Los Angeles, CA. Its mission is to increase economic development through the improved transition of scientific and technological breakthroughs from the laboratory to the marketplace, where they can solve problems, enhance economic opportunities, advance medical care, and better people\’s lives. Larta was originally formed in 1993 through legislation enacted by the State of California to assist small companies developing innovative technologies. The Institute has expanded dramatically since then to serve thousands of clients in a wide variety of technology sectors globally and has helped companies raise over $1.5B in capital since 1993.
“The Commercialization Assistance Program was developed by the National Institutes of Health out of a recognition that researchers and small businesses who are experts in their respective technologies may know nothing about marketing or commercializing an actual product,” states HCI’s President and CEO John V. Hobday, M.A. “Selection for this program and the ability to work in partnership with the internationally known Larta Institute is a significant opportunity, which has the potential to lead to venture capital or other investment for our company. This is a huge opportunity for us, and we are thrilled to have been chosen to participate.”
